Michigan Rules Printable Version

Revised October 11, 2006

Each problem has its own specific set of rules teams must follow.  There are also general rules that apply to all Odyssey of the MindTM teams.  These general rules are listed in the Program Guide.  Finally, states, such as Michigan, may have rules all teams in their state must follow.  In Michigan, teams must observe the following rules:

Other Fees:

  • Registrations not electronically transmitted by the due date will be assessed a $50 late fee.  Teams cannot compete until the fee is paid.
  • Incomplete registrations will be assessed a $50 late fee.  Teams can’t compete until registration is complete and late fee paid.
  • If the team’s judge can’t attend tournament day, teams will be assessed a $50 fee. [Policies and Procedures 2(b)]

Scores:
Only one coach, or the team captain in Division 3, may receive the long-term raw score sheet from the Head Judge.  [Policies and Procedures 7(f)]

Teams Advancing to State Finals:  [Policies and Procedures 7 (l)]

1 through 6 teams registered 2 places advance
7 through 12 teams registered              3 places advance
13 through 18 teams registered              4 places advance
19 through 24 teams registered              5 places advance
25 plus teams registered               6 places advance

If there is a tie both qualifying teams advance in that place.

Ranatra Fusca winners also advance whether it is a team or an individual award. [Policies and Procedures 7 (m)]

Minimum Score Requirement:
There is no minimum point requirement for teams advancing to the next level of competition.  The "75-point rule" has been discontinued.

Teams Advancing to World Finals:
The Creativity Unlimited in Michigan board determines how many places will advance to World Finals.  In 2006, teams placing first or second in their long-term problem or earning a Ranatra Fusca award at State Finals will advance to World Finals.  [Policies and Procedures 9(a)]

Team Performance Video:
Under no circumstances will a video of the team’s performance be viewed for judging purposes or to settle disputes by judges or tournament officials.  [Polices and Procedures 7 (r)]

Team Members Moving to Another School:
A team member who starts with a team and moves to another school may continue on the original team.  Both schools need to be informed and approve of this arrangement.
[Policies and Procedures 20 (a) and (b)]
